CVS Trip: I Saved 94% Despite My Disorganization

May 23, 2010

I stopped at CVS this afternoon with coupons in hand and a great scenario to score some needed items for very little out-of-pocket cash.

That all came to a screeching halt when I realized that I’d left my $5 off $30 coupon at home!

I ended up getting fewer items, using up ALL of my ECBs, but still paying very little out-of-pocket. I feel quite strange knowing that I have ZERO Extra Care Bucks right now. *sigh* The good news is that I have a prescription to fill. Maybe I can scout out a gift card coupon before I fill it! That could get the whole cycle started again.

Here’s what I ended up with… despite my lack of organization!

Starting ECBs: $8.99
Merchandise Value: $23.31
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $1.32 plus tax
Savings: $21.99 (94%)

Transaction #1
If you don’t get anything else at CVS this week, SNAG THIS DEAL! It’s a great moneymaker! I got the Old Spice, but you can also get the Gillette brand. If they’re out, just get a rain check. CVS rain checks never expire.
Bought 2 Old Spice body wash – $4.00 each
Used Buy 1 – Get 1 FREE coupon from 5/2 P&G insert
Used $4.00 ECBs from last week
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $0 plus tax
ECBs Earned: $8.00

Transaction #2
Bought 1 Huggies GoodNites – $11.99
Bought 2 Froot Loops – $1.66 each
Used $1.00 off 2 Kellogg’s printable coupon
Used $8.00 ECBs from Transaction #1
Used $4.99 ECBs from last week
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $1.32 plus tax

I burned through all of my ECBs, but we needed the GoodNites. I’d rather pay $1.32 and start over on ECBs than pay $11.99! I guess that’s what this whole ECB shopping method is about, right?

Yeah, I burned some this week, too, but not all of them. But I did get $69 worth of stuff for $.03 so can’t complain. 🙂 But I hate to end up with less than I started with.

Don’t you just feel like you’re missing your left arm!?!? We’ll have to make up for it next week! 🙂
