I’m a control freak by nature. I have to work really hard to let go of things. Lately I’ve been trying to let go of little decisions with Emma. I used to lay out her clothes for her each day, but lately I’ve been asking her to just go and get dressed. She’s excited about choosing her own clothes each day, so I have to look the other way when she chooses an outfit I might not have put together. Every once in a while we’ll have the agreement that she can wear what she’s picked out unless we go somewhere. 😉 She’s okay with that, and so am I.
I’ve also been trying to hand over decisions like how she wants her hair done or what she wants for lunch. She’s used to us just doing things for her and deciding things for her, but we want to encourage her to think for herself. She’s enjoying the sense of power that comes with decisions. I like that she feels some control over her own choices, even if they’re little ones.
